May 15, 1536: Anne Boleyn is found guilty of treason.

Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s second wife after Catharine of Aragon and the wife for whom the king broke away from the Catholic Church, was arrested in May of 1536 and charged with adultery, incest, and treason. Her arrest took place only three years after her marriage to Henry, which had so far produced no male heirs and only one healthy child; the king had meanwhile taken Jane Seymour, who was to become his third wife just weeks after Anne Boleyn’s execution, as a mistress. Anne was, according to contemporary accounts, intelligent, witty, and anything but submissive. all traits that Henry found desirable, even exciting, in a mistress, but not in a wife; her confrontational nature combined with her failure to bear male heirs healthy enough to survive past infancy caused their marriage to crumble.

Anne Boleyn’s arrest was based on accusations of her illicit sexual relationships with a court musician, several aristocrats, and Anne’s own brother George; she was charged with both adultery (a form of treason when committed by a queen) and plotting the death of the king (another form of treason). Of her accused lovers, five were found guilty of treason, including George Boleyn, and executed by decapitation on May 17, 1536. Anne was held in the Tower of London and remained there until her own execution on May 19, 1536; her final words were reportedly a prayer:

To Jesus Christ I commend my soul; Lord Jesus receive my soul.

Anne Boleyn was survived by one child, who was the only one of her siblings to survive birth and infancy, who was declared illegitimate and deprived of her birthright not long after her mother’s execution in order to clear the way for her father’s male heirs, and who eventually became one of England’s most famous, most influential monarchs.

Elizabeth hardly ever mentioned her mother, but a locket-ring she wore says more than a million words ever could: inside the ring was a picture of Elizabeth and her mother, Anne Boleyn.

♛ the fall of kings and the rise of queens ♛

We have known pain, we have suffered greatly but we have survived. We have buried our mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, wept our tears and honoured them. Now we begin a new age - one of peace and joy. Let not kin fight kin, their blood not to water the earth that was marched across to the beat of war. Our great kingdom will now be ruled by three so that no man may claim his voice unheard. We vow to protect all, pledging ourselves to our people.

So let the North rejoice with their queen, Sansa the Brave, and the halls of Winterfell to be filled with cheer. From the Vale of Arryn, the Crownlands and the Stormlands, seated in King’s Landing, Shireen the Just, joint protector of the Wall. And presiding over the Riverlands, the Westerlands, the Reach and Dorne, Myrcella the Wise, who has taken up her colours of red and gold.

All hail Queen Sansa!
All hail Queen Shireen!
All hail Queen Myrcella!

Posthumous Characters Picspam → Shiera SeastarShe was the greatest beauty of her age, a slender and elegant woman, slim of waist and full of breast. She had the silver-gold hair of the Targaryens, thick and curling, and wore it very long. At some points in her life it fell well below her waist, almost to the back of her knees. She had a heart-shaped face, full lips, and her mismatched eyes were strangely large and full of mischief; her rivals said she used them to melt men’s hearts. Even at an early age, she was a great reader. She spoke a dozen tongues and surrounded herself with ancient scrolls. Like her mother, she was reputed to practice the dark arts. Though she never wed, she had many offers, and several lovers through the years. Duels were fought over the right to sit beside her, men killed themselves after falling from her favor, poets outdid each other writing songs about her beauty. Her most ardent admirer was her half-brother, Bloodraven, who proposed marriage to her half a hundred times. Shiera gave him her bed, but never her hand. It amused her more to make him jealous.

People seem to only focus on what he gave up for her. But what about what she gave up?
